I just need to talk about this for a second, please bear with me.
After watching this scene a few times, something occurred to me that I’m amazed I didn’t realize sooner. When Kurt tells Dave to close his eyes, think of what life could be like in ten years, I was so washed up in the moment that I didn’t even take a second to think about the significance of Kurt closing his eyes.
This is Dave’s future, that Kurt is narrating. He tells Dave to close his eyes so he can really see it, really be a part of that fantasy. Kurt could have easily just left his eyes open, told Dave this story. But no. He closed his eyes, and in doing so, he became part of that moment. He was not separate, not an outsider. He chose to be in that moment, in that fantasy, with Dave.
That, to me, spoke more than anything else in this scene.
